GREEN TEA EXPORTS TO THE MIDDLE EAST MARKET
    Tuesday, 10:42 Date 06/10/2020

Exporting to the Middle East market requires Halal certification, including the requirements for tea garden management

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thu - Director of Phuoc Nam Anh Company, an enterprise based in Loc Thanh commune, Bao Lam district, said that Phuoc Nam Anh is an enterprise specializing in producing green tea for export to the Middle East. . The company was established from 2014 up to now, every year, Phuoc Nam Anh exports to markets in Middle East countries such as Pakistan, Apganistan ... approximately 2,000 tons of green tea. Even in 2020, although it is very difficult due to the COVID-19 epidemic taking place worldwide, the Company also exported 1,800 tons of green tea. Mr. Thu shared: “The Middle East region uses tea a lot in daily life, for them tea is an indispensable drink for all residents. Therefore, exporting green tea to the Middle East is a direction we oriented from the beginning and until now we still see this as the right direction ”.

Mr. Thu shared, with many years of experience in the tea industry, choosing the right direction is a mandatory condition to compete in the market. The Middle East is a region that uses tea a lot, mainly green tea with the taste very close to the Vietnamese way of drinking tea. Green tea is a type of tea processed by killing yeast, retaining the characteristic acrid taste of tea buds. Therefore, green tea is required to be processed with the stages of stirring, killing yeast, etc. right after harvest to ensure export quality. "The Middle East market has its own characteristics," said Thu. In addition to the quality of tea, which must comply with the requirements of the importers, we also have to develop a Halal certificate exclusively for Muslims, because the users are mainly Muslims. Tea bags must also be packed at a large scale, bags of 10 kg and 25 kg. Because Middle Eastern people drink a lot of tea, they often buy, use, and donate large bags of tea ". According to Mr. Thu, the Middle East market used to use Srilanca tea, Chinese tea ... but gradually shift to using Vietnamese tea because the price is more reasonable. If entering the market, meeting the standards of partners and especially keeping the prestige, Vietnamese green tea will open more opportunities in the Middle East market. Phuoc Nam Anh Company, with its tradition of exporting to the Middle East and traditional partners, has maintained its foothold in the Vietnamese tea village.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thu shared, since its operation until now, the company has not closed the factory a day. That is because the Company must ensure to consume all the green tea harvested farmers bring to the factory. He provided: “Tea production requires tea buds. We have a tea garden, but only 20 hectares can only meet a small part of the factory's production needs. Therefore, the factory mainly buys tea buds from farmers for processing ”. Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company, Mr. Than Van Suu, who is a tea industry worker confided: “Farmers who grow and pick tea buds are very hard, so as producers, we respect the efforts of people. Many days when people finished picking, it rains, actually tea production meets with poor quality, but we still run the machine. Because the factory does not buy, people have to discard the whole batch of buds, which is very damage. Currently, the company is purchasing 60-80 tons of fresh tea buds a day, contributing to helping hundreds of tea farmers in Bao Lam and Bao Loc areas live healthy.

What tea makers of Phuoc Nam Anh are still concerned about is that the connection between enterprises and tea growers is not really linked. Mr. Nguyen Duc Thu said, the company also directed farmers to invest in new tea varieties, planted according to the process and consumption of output products. But really, the Company does not have enough conditions to stick closely to the level of controlling the tea garden cultivation process. Therefore, the Company is striving to more closely link with farmers, aiming to have each tea bud have a clear origin, go to foreign markets with higher value, and contribute to brand building. Vietnamese tea.
